As we all are settling in after the summer holidays, well those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, I wanted to make sure that you didn’t miss these interesting posts.
Enjoy and please let me know what you think.
Media companies are profitable. Despite all of the news you hear about the death of push marketing and how conversation is the new medium, social media is only a small part of the overall picture. In fact in this post Greg Satell does a great job of laying that in fact social media needs mass media to continue to thrive, if it’s campaigns are going to work on a consistent basis.
Social Media programs are not rewarded with participation ribbons simply for their existence. Merely having an outpost on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube is not a social media strategy, they are tactics and often actions that are not well tried together. As Brian Solis states in his post “A true social media strategy socializes the entire business as well as the individual pieces that perform dedicated functions – both inbound and outbound. Again, when integrated, social media is measured by the sum of its parts and the interconnection of strategies and processes and as a result, starts to construct the hallmarks of sCRM.”
Criticism of your idea is usually based on assumptions about the world as derived through the other person’s blinders and prisms. The real question and often opportunity is derived around expectations. Under normal circumstances we take for granted the status quo. The real question we should always ask our selves was presented by Seth Godin in this post, “…what about the world as it is would have to change for your idea to be important?”
The frontier is all around us, which means that opportunity, exists. It also means that there is risk present which often causes us the freeze. “Somewhere along the line, our language shifted” to quote Chris Brogan. Chris is looking at the changing attitude with regards to how people us to look for ways earn compensation by applying their skills/talents. I look at it in that way as well, but also from the standpoint that we somehow have applied the definition of risky to risk.
Amidst the substantial shifts in mobile over the past few months, a few themes have begun to emerge. Damon Kiesow does a good job of list five of them.
